Welcome to Sheridan Datathon 2026 🚀
Sheridan Datathon is Mississauga's largest data-focused hackathon. It's a 24-hour student-led event where 250+ students from across the GTA come together at Sheridan's HMC Campus to turn real sponsor datasets into insights, models, and stories.
What makes us different
It's basically a hackathon, but the challenge is centered around data instead of just building something. Teams get actual datasets from industry sponsors and work to find the most interesting insight or story hidden inside. You're being judged more on what you discovered than what you built, which means the final submission could be a research draft, an interactive dashboard, a working prototype, or a new solution to a problem, not just a web app.
Whether you're a data scientist, ML engineer, business analyst, designer, or first-time competitor, you'll find a place at this event to contribute meaningfully.

Multi-track prize structure
The Datathon features #+ sponsor-backed prize tracks, each with its own dataset + problem statement from the sponsoring company. Winners on each track are selected by the sponsoring company's own judges. On top of that, we also award overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd across all tracks.
Prizes include:
- $???K+ prize pool

Requirements
What to Submit
To be eligible for judging, all teams must submit the following to Devpost by 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2026:
1. Your Project
Choose one of our sponsor-backed prize tracks (or the beginner-friendly track) and build a data-driven submission using the provided dataset and problem statement. Because this is a datathon, your submission does not need to be a fully working web app. Acceptable deliverables include:
- 📊 An interactive dashboard or data visualization
- 🤖 A machine learning model or predictive analysis
- 📓 A Jupyter/Colab notebook demonstrating your workflow
- 📄 A research draft or written insight report
- 🛠 A working prototype (web app, tool, or platform)
- 🎯 A proposed solution to a real business problem
You're being judged on what you discovered and how well you communicate it, not just what you built.
2. Presentation Video (2–3 minutes max)
A short video walking through your findings, methodology, and key insights. Uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or embedded directly on Devpost. Live team demos will also happen in-person on Sunday.
3. Source Code or Project Repository
A public link to your code, notebook, or files (GitHub, GitLab, Kaggle Notebook, or shared Google Drive folder).
4. Devpost Project Page
Complete all required fields on your Devpost submission:
- Project name
- Elevator pitch (1 sentence)
- Full description (the problem, your approach, what you found)
- Tech stack / built with
- Team members
- Video, code link, and any screenshots or visualizations
5. Track Selection
Clearly indicate which sponsor track you're competing in when submitting on Devpost (each track has its own dataset and problem statement provided by the sponsor).
Important notes
- Teams must be 1–4 people, all currently enrolled post-secondary students in Ontario.
- All work must be completed during the 24-hour hacking window (Sat Nov 7, 12:00 PM → Sun Nov 8, 12:00 PM).
- Pre-existing open-source tools, libraries, and frameworks are allowed, but core analysis + insights must be developed during the event.
- Late submissions will not be accepted - the Devpost submission page closes at 12:00 PM on Sunday sharp.
